introduction
Why Personalization Matters
Personalization makes an app feel uniquely tailored to each user, increasing engagement and satisfaction.
When users see relevant or essential content and features, they interact more and are more likely to return.
It also improves usability by simplifying navigation and reducing effort. Beyond functionality, a personalized experience strengthens the emotional connection between users and the app, fostering long-term loyalty.
A good profile page should be easy to customize and feel personal to the user. Here are some important key features:
Editable Profile Information
Customizable UI and Themes
Smart Content Recommendations
Behavior-Based Customization
Privacy and Security Controls
background
How the project started
The profile page in Privy’s mobile app needed an update to align with the new homepage design and recent changes in the subscription business model.
This was the perfect opportunity to refine the user experience by introducing new features and improving the overall layout.
My goal was to create a profile page that seamlessly matches the homepage while optimizing its structure for better usability.

How I Designed Privy’s Mobile App
When designing Privy’s mobile app, I prioritized personalization and essential features to create a seamless and user-friendly experience. Every element was carefully considered to ensure users had control, security, and only the necessary features they needed.
Privacy-Centric Design
– Intuitive and transparent privacy settings allow users to manage their data effortlessly, ensuring control over what they share and how it's used.Robust Security Controls
– Implementing multiple layers of security, including password protection, OTP verification, biometric authentication, and PIN access, enhances user safety without adding friction.Essential and Niche Features
– The app focuses on core functionalities while integrating niche features that add value without overwhelming the user, ensuring a clean and efficient experience.
What’s the Difference?
"Profile
," "Account
," and "Settings
" are all connected—and honestly, they can sound pretty interchangeable. From a designer or product perspective, it's a simple concept that can get surprisingly tricky. Is "Settings" part of the Account page? Or is Profile customization supposed to be under Settings?

There’s no standard approach to naming account-related pages. eBay keeps it minimal, while Amazon includes everything about a user and their purchases.
"Account" vs. "Profile"
Account: A user's private space on the platform.
Profile: Personal details like name, birthday, achievements, and photos.
Many apps use "Profile" to mean "Account," but the best practice is to stick with "Your Account" or simply an avatar icon.
"My" vs. "Your"
For consistency and clarity, "Your Account," "Your Orders," and "Your Profile" work best. However, if your brand voice is casual, "My Profile" might be a better fit.

Understanding Privy's Users
To design an effective personalized experience, it’s important to understand the different types of users. For Privy's mobile app, we identified three key personas:
Casual Users: They check the app occasionally and prefer a simple, easy-to-use experience.
Power Users: These users interact with the app frequently and want more advanced customization options.
Privacy-Conscious Users: They prioritize security and need clear, easy-to-access privacy settings.

High-fidelity Prototype
By displaying only the essential menus users need, Privy's profile page remains compact and UX-friendly. Everything is neatly organized and well-structured.
